Cooktop Repair • Broomfield
Even Heat and Reliable Flames, From the Family Next Door
A cooktop does more daily work than almost any other appliance in a kitchen, and when one burner or zone quits, the whole meal plan bends around it. In Broomfield homes, condos and rental units, we fix gas, radiant glass, coil and induction cooktops, as well as rangetops. The fault is often a single part, such as an igniter, a switch, an element, a cooling fan or a control board, so repairing usually makes more sense than buying a new cooktop and reworking the countertop cutout. Your technician finds that part by testing, not by guessing.
PointLine is a small, family-owned company with its office in Superior, which puts Broomfield right next door, midway between Denver and Boulder along US-36. We schedule a visit in a window that fits your day, test the burners, elements or zones, and give you a firm quote before any work begins. The $85 diagnostic visit is credited toward the repair, parts are genuine OEM, and the work carries a 90-day parts and labor warranty. Whether the cooktop sits in a house, a condo, a rental or an office kitchen in Interlocken, the process stays the same.
Right Now
Before Anything Else: Gas, Glass and Flames
Make the kitchen safe first, and call about repair once the danger has passed.
#1
Cooking is the leading cause of home fires and fire injuries
37%
Nonconfined cooking fires where unattended equipment was the leading factor
- 1Gas smell: walk out firstIf you smell gas from a gas cooktop, get out of the house immediately without touching the burner knobs, light switches or anything else that might spark, then call 911 or your gas utility once you're outside. Stay out until you are told the home is safe. A repair visit comes only after the utility has cleared the house.
- 2Cracked glass: cut the powerShut off every zone, then flip the cooktop's breaker off at the electrical panel so nothing can warm up under the cracked surface. Keep pans and hands off the glass and leave the cooktop unused until it is repaired. Sharp edges and exposed parts make it worth waiting for a technician.
- 3Pan fire: smother itSet a lid or baking sheet over the pan, turn off the burner and leave the cover in place until the pan is fully cool. Never carry a burning pan or throw water on grease. Should the fire move past the pan, get everyone out of the house and call 911.
- 4Stand by your panThe U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) reports that cooking is, by far, the leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries, and that unattended equipment was the leading factor in nonconfined home cooking fires, at 37%. The guidance is simple: stay with your pan while it's on the heat, and keep a lid or baking sheet within reach so you can quickly smother any flame.
Common Problems
Reading the Clues: Six Cooktop Faults, Suspect by Suspect
The causes below describe how cooktops are generally built, and testing at your cooktop decides which one applies before any quote.
Burner ticks away and the gas stays unlit
- Likely causes
- A dirty or damp igniter, a burner cap sitting crooked, blocked ports or weak gas flow to that burner can keep the spark from catching.
- What we check
- We inspect the burner and cap, test the igniter and confirm that gas reaches the burner.
- Typical fix
- The usual fix is cleaning and reseating the parts, or replacing the igniter or burner head.
Sparking by itself while the knobs are off
- Likely causes
- A knob switch soaked by a spill, a shorted switch or a spark module that fires on its own can keep the spark running.
- What we check
- We dry and inspect the switches, then test the module's output.
- Typical fix
- We replace the failed switch or module and confirm the burner sparks once and stops.
Flame hisses and floats above the ports
- Likely causes
- Blocked ports, a misaligned cap, a burner not set up for the local elevation or a regulator problem can distort the flame.
- What we check
- We inspect the ports and cap, then watch the flame at high and low settings.
- Typical fix
- The usual fix is clearing the ports, replacing the cap, or adjusting or replacing the part that controls gas and air.
Radiant zone heats slowly or cuts out mid-simmer
- Likely causes
- A weakening ribbon element, a failing infinite switch, a limiter that trips early or a scorched terminal are the usual suspects.
- What we check
- We test continuity at the element and switch, and inspect the terminals for heat damage.
- Typical fix
- We swap out whichever element, switch or terminal block has failed.
Induction zone throws a code mid-boil
- Likely causes
- A code can come up when cookware isn't magnetic or is too small for the zone, and it can also point to a clogged cooling fan, a power board that's overheating or a coil that has failed.
- What we check
- We run the magnet test on your pan, then check the fan, vents and boards for heat and faults.
- Typical fix
- The fix may be a different pan, a new fan, or a replacement board or coil.
Cooktop goes dark after a boilover
- Likely causes
- Liquid near the controls, a tripped breaker, a loose power connection or a failed control board can shut everything down at once.
- What we check
- We check the breaker and terminals, and look for moisture and corrosion around the controls.
- Typical fix
- The usual repair is drying and cleaning, tightening a connection, or replacing the board or touch control.
Gas, Electric & Induction
Three Ways to Heat a Pan, Three Ways to Fail
Spark, resistance and magnetism do the heating in three different cooktops, and each leaves its own signature when something breaks. Knowing which is which also shows where your own checking should end.
Gas Burners Fail at the Spark or the Flow
When you turn a knob, it closes a small switch that tells the spark module to fire the igniter next to the burner as gas flows to the port. A dirty, wet or worn igniter gives you clicking without a flame, while a bad switch or module can leave the clicking going after the burner lights. A weak or odd flame points instead to blocked ports, a crooked cap or the gas flow itself. You can lift and dry a cap safely, but anything involving gas connections belongs to us.
Glass and Coil Tops Fail at the Element or the Switch
On a radiant glass top, a ribbon element sits hidden beneath the surface, while on a coil top the element plugs into a receptacle. An infinite switch decides how much power reaches the element, and a limiter keeps the glass from overheating. When a zone stays cold, a failed element, switch, limiter or scorched terminal is the likely cause, which is why we test with a meter instead of swapping parts at random. Opening a live cooktop is not a homeowner task.
Induction Fails Where the Electronics Live
An induction zone uses a magnetic field to heat the pan directly, which means your cookware has to be magnetic and big enough to cover the zone. Hold a magnet to the bottom of your pan, and if it does not cling, the cooktop is refusing the pan rather than failing. If the pan passes and the zone still blinks a code, a blocked cooling fan, an overheating power board or a failed coil is more likely. Those parts sit under the glass and need a technician.
Know Where Your Part Ends
Plenty of glass cooktops include a control lock, typically marked with a key or padlock icon, and the owner's manual walks you through unlocking it. Moisture or residue on the glass can also make a touch panel ignore you, so wipe it dry with the cooktop off. A cracked glass top is different: stop using it, switch off its breaker and call us, because a crack can let spills reach live parts. Anything that needs a meter or a wrench is ours to handle.

What Front Range Living Does to a Stovetop
A few details about Broomfield, paired with how cooktops typically work, point your technician to the right place to start.
Established Kitchens Beside Newer Builds
Broomfield began as a small town, started growing in the 1960s and saw a lot of new housing go up in the 1990s and 2000s, which is why older kitchens and much newer ones share the same neighborhoods. Older cooktops tend to rely on mechanical infinite switches, coil receptacles and simple spark switches that wear with age, while newer models lean on touch controls and circuit boards. A good diagnosis starts with knowing which generation of cooktop you own. That tells us which parts to test first.
Thin Air Under the Burner Grate
Broomfield sits at about 5,300 to 5,400 feet, where thinner air gives a gas flame less oxygen than it would get at sea level. A burner set up for lower ground, or one with clogged ports or a crooked cap, can burn yellow, lift off the port or sound noisy. Your technician studies the flame, the air mixture and the burner parts together rather than blaming one piece.
Mineral Rings and Misfires After a Boilover
Broomfield draws its water from two places: treated water purchased from Denver Water, plus Colorado-Big Thompson and Windy Gap water that Northern Water manages and the city treats at its own plant. We can't say what is in your particular tap, but any water that evaporates on a glass top can leave a mineral ring, and any water that creeps toward an igniter can cause clicking and misfires. A dry cloth and a little patience often clear the second problem, and a cleaner made for glass tops handles the first.

Premium Cooktops Reward Patient, Precise Work
Wolf, Thermador, Miele, Viking, Dacor, Monogram, JennAir and Bosch cooktops and rangetops are built differently from basic models. Sealed gas burners keep spills out of the burner box but depend on precise igniter and port alignment, and induction units pack power boards, sensors and cooling fans into a slim chassis. Diagnosis starts with the error code and the pan, then moves to meters and a close look at the boards. Genuine OEM parts matter here because tolerances are tight and the electronics are matched to the model.
A lot of these cooktops are set flush into quartz, granite or marble, and a single careless pry can chip an edge that's hard to replace. Before lifting anything, your technician checks how the unit is mounted, protects the surrounding surface and decides whether the work can happen from above or below. Gas connections are tested after reassembly, and every burner or zone is run through its settings before we pack up. If a part has to be ordered, we say so plainly, and the firm quote still comes first.
Before You Call
What You Can Safely Rule Out Yourself
- 1Confirm the cooktop has powerA tripped breaker can silence an electric cooktop or the spark system on a gas one, so look at the panel and reset a tripped breaker once. If it trips again, stop and call.
- 2Compare two burnersIf every burner fails together, the cause is probably shared, such as power or gas supply, while one failing burner points to its own parts.
- 3Wipe and dry around the igniterWith the burners off and cool, dry the igniter area and the cap, since moisture after a boilover often causes clicking that clears once everything is dry.
- 4Try a pan a magnet clings toWhen a magnet doesn't hold firmly to the bottom of a pan, that pan won't work on induction, so the zone is turning down the cookware, not breaking down.
- 5Look for a lit lock iconIf you see a key or padlock symbol, the controls have been locked, and your owner's manual explains how to unlock them.

“We had PointLine Appliance Repair diagnose and repair our 3-year old GE Washing Machine that had ceased to complete the spin dry cycle. Nick was polite and professional. He correctly identified the electronic part that needed to be replaced. He replaced the part and the washing machine now runs like new again. We highly recommend PointLine Dominance Repair!”
Lorin C.October 2026 · Google “This is a small owner-operated business, which is a big bonus as pricing is much more reasonable than using the chains or PE owned companies. Nick was accommodating, and installed a new evaporator fan in my GE Cafe fridge/freezer quickly and correctly. Highly recommend.”
Aaron F.July 2026 · Google “I highly recommend PointLine for appliance repair! I called them on a Sunday about a leaking washing machine, and they were incredibly responsive right from the start. They scheduled a same-day appointment, and Nick arrived ready to help. He was highly knowledgeable, answered all my questions, and fixed the faulty valve during that single visit. To top it off, Nick followed up a week later to ensure everything was still working perfectly. I will absolutely use them again for any future repair needs!”

FAQ
Asked Before the Burner Gets Fixed
Cooktop questions from Broomfield homeowners.
Do you come to 80020, 80023 and the Broomfield side of 80021?
Yes, we serve 80020 and 80023, along with the part of 80021 that falls in Broomfield. We confirm your address and a visit window when you book online or by phone.
Do cooktops in newer subdivisions fail differently from those in older kitchens?
Often they do, because newer cooktops lean on electronics while older ones lean on mechanical parts. A touch control board, cooling fan or induction power board is a likely suspect on a recent model, while a worn infinite switch, coil receptacle or igniter switch fits an older one. Your technician tests either kind and quotes the specific part before any work.
Does living at roughly 5,300 feet mean my gas burners need special setup?
Not always, but elevation is worth checking when a flame looks wrong. Thinner air gives a gas burner less oxygen than it would get at sea level, so a flame that lifts, burns yellow or sounds noisy may need cleaning or adjusting, depending on how the cooktop was set up. Your technician looks at the flame and the burner parts before suggesting any change.
I rent my place. Can I book the cooktop repair myself?
You can book the visit, though your lease may ask you to tell your landlord or property manager first. We're happy to work with either one of you, and the firm quote is given to the person who approves the work. Offices and break rooms, including those in Interlocken, follow the same process.
My rangetop has sealed burners and a stone counter. Does that change the repair?
Yes, it changes how carefully the job is planned, though not whether we can do it. Sealed burners and premium electronics are tested with the same method as any cooktop, and with stone we plan the lift so an edge is not chipped. Genuine OEM parts are used for the repair.
Which cooktop problems can wait a day or two, and which cannot?
A gas smell, cracked glass, scorching or smoke cannot wait, while a slow burner or a weak flame usually can. If you smell gas, get out of the house and call 911 or your gas utility once you're outside; if the glass is cracked, turn off the breaker. Once everyone is safe, book a visit and we will take it from there.
