Getting Your Laundry Room Back to Normal

A full hamper and a dryer that won't cooperate can throw off a whole week. Towels come out clammy, work clothes end up on hangers in the shower, and the machine runs a second cycle that still doesn't finish the job. PointLine is a small family business with a single office next door in Superior, and we fix gas and electric dryers in Broomfield homes, condos and rentals. That includes homes near Interlocken and every ZIP code the city covers.

A dryer is worth fixing correctly because three systems inside it depend on each other: a heat source, a blower that pushes moist air out the vent, and a motor that turns the drum. When one of them weakens, the others work harder, so a cheap guess at the wrong part can leave the real fault in place and shorten the life of everything around it. Your technician tests before replacing anything, gives you a firm price before work starts, and installs genuine OEM parts covered by our 90-day parts and labor warranty. The goal is simple: one cycle, dry clothes, and a machine that runs safely.

    Common Problems

Six Dryer Faults and How We Track Them Down

These are the usual trouble spots for dryers, since most models are built in a similar way. Before we quote a repair, your technician pins down the part that actually failed using meters and hands-on testing.

    • Drum spins, but the air stays cold

      Likely causes
On an electric dryer, the problem typically comes down to a burned-out heating element, a blown thermal fuse or a high-limit thermostat that has stopped working. On gas dryers, it is more often the igniter, the flame sensor or the gas valve coils.
      What we check
We check the element, fuse and thermostats for continuity, and on gas dryers we observe the ignition sequence and inspect every part that plays a role in it. We also check the vent, because a blown fuse usually means something made the dryer overheat.
      Typical fix
Replacing the failed part restores heat, and clearing any airflow restriction we find keeps the new part from failing the same way.
    • Clothes still damp when the buzzer sounds

      Likely causes
A restricted or crushed vent is the leading suspect, followed by lint packed inside the cabinet. A moisture sensor coated with fabric-softener residue can also end cycles too early.
      What we check
We measure airflow at the outdoor hood, inspect the transition duct and look inside the cabinet for lint buildup. We also test the moisture sensor bars and the cycling thermostat.
      Typical fix
Most fixes involve restoring airflow, cleaning or replacing the sensor, or swapping out a thermostat that no longer holds the right temperature.
    • Motor hums, drum doesn't move

      Likely causes
Most often, the cause is a broken drive belt or an idler pulley that has seized. A drive motor near the end of its life can also hum without turning the drum.
      What we check
We open the cabinet, check the belt and pulley by hand, and test the motor and its start circuit. Worn drum rollers that drag on the motor get checked too.
      Typical fix
A new belt and idler pulley usually get the drum turning again, and we replace the motor only when testing shows it has failed.
    • No response at all to the Start button

      Likely causes
A dryer that won't make a sound can come down to a bad door switch, a blown thermal fuse or a start switch that has failed. A half-tripped breaker or a loose terminal at the power cord can do the same.
      What we check
We first make sure power is reaching the outlet and terminal block, then check the door switch, thermal fuse and start switch individually. On electronic models, we check the control board's inputs.
      Typical fix
Replacing the faulty switch or fuse usually brings the dryer back, and if a fuse blew, we track down whatever caused the overheating.
    • Squealing, scraping or a heavy thump

      Likely causes
Squealing and scraping noises usually point to worn drum rollers, worn glides or a frayed felt seal. Thumping tends to come from flattened rollers or a loose, worn belt.
      What we check
We turn the drum by hand with the belt off to isolate the noise, then inspect the rollers, glides, seals and idler. We also look for anything caught between the drum and the cabinet.
      Typical fix
Replacing the worn support parts as a set quiets the drum and keeps the next part in line from wearing out right after.
    • Blinking display or an error code

      Likely causes
Modern dryers use codes to flag sensor, heating, airflow, door or communication faults, and some point straight to a restricted vent. A code tells us where to start looking, not which part to replace.
      What we check
We read the code, run the model's service diagnostics, and test the circuit the code points to. That separates a real failed part from a wiring or airflow problem.
      Typical fix
The fix might be a sensor, thermistor, wiring repair or control board, and we confirm the cause before quoting any of them.

    Vent & Lint Safety

The Vent Path, Lint Control and Fire Safety

Hot, damp air has to leave the drum for clothes to dry. When that path narrows, drying slows, the cabinet heats up, and safety parts start working overtime.

      Broomfield Homes

How Local Homes, Water and Altitude Affect a Dryer

A few things about the city, combined with general dryer knowledge, shape what your technician checks first.

      • Decades of Building, Decades of Dryers

Broomfield started growing out of a small town in the 1960s and expanded sharply through the 1990s and 2000s, which is why older, established houses stand alongside much newer ones. In older houses the laundry area and vent route may have been set up long before modern dryers, sometimes with longer duct runs or tight corners. In newer homes, the dryer that came with the house may still be in service, and builder-grade models eventually wear out belts, rollers, idler pulleys and moisture sensors. Your technician looks at the machine and the vent path together, because either one can be the real problem.

      • Two Water Supplies and Steam Cycles

Broomfield gets its water from two sources: treated water bought from Denver Water, along with Colorado-Big Thompson and Windy Gap water that the city cleans at its own treatment plant. A standard dryer never touches water, but steam-equipped models draw from a supply line through an inlet valve and small filter screen. In general, minerals in any tap water can gradually build up on those screens and nozzles, weakening steam output or setting off a water-supply error. When a steam feature stops working, we check the hose, screen and valve before assuming the control board has failed.

      • Thin, Dry Air at About 5,300–5,400 Feet

Up here, a gas burner has less oxygen to work with than it would at sea level, and plenty of manufacturers call for a high-altitude setup on gas dryers. A burner that isn't set up for the altitude can burn poorly, struggle to light, or dry slowly, so we check the setup against the manufacturer's instructions. The dry Front Range air also means more static and fine lint that collects quickly in screens and ducts. Rental dryers that run load after load collect that lint even faster, especially when no one in particular is responsible for cleaning the screen.
